Sam and I started working together just over a year ago. When he came to me, he already had very strong lifts but was struggling with some up and down motion and hitching on his deadlift. Within the year we have worked on a less dynamic start, being more patient off the floor, and prioritizing Sam’s positioning during the entire movement. We incorporated paused deadlifts and some different cues to make it easier for Sam to push the ground away instead of pulling the bar up. 1 and 1/2 years ago Sam’s max was 501. He just pulled 565 for 3 last week with a little room in the tank.
When Dani and I started working together she was just transitioning into powerlifting and wasn’t quite sure which kind of approach she should take with her training. She has always maintained excellent technique, but had lacked some confidence in what she was truly capable of. Through a lot of programing changes and building confidence with heavier weights we were able to build up to a big set of 6 with 220lbs, which was her pr just over 1 year ago.
Shivam came to me after competing in his first powerlifting meet. He was looking for some technique help and just wanted to get stronger. After taking a look at his squat, he was flaring his ribcage, and was thinking chest up when coming out of the hole. We have worked on having a bit more of a hinged position going into the hole which has allowed for Shivam to maintain a proper brace and better position to apply force into the ground. Shivam squatted 300lbs at his first meet and here we are just 4 months later pausing the big 315 for the first time with a couple reps in the tank
